Road Trips around Southern Tasmania

  • Southern Edge Road Trip © Jess Bonde

Tasmania island lends itself to road trip adventures – its compact and shorter driving times generally mean you can be up a mountain in the morning and at the beach come afternoon. Just go at your own pace and be sure to take the curious side roads along the way.

Hop on the Spirit of Tasmania with your camper, pick up a hire car at the airport or find a long lost Tasmanian relative eager to be your driver and tour guide. Whatever way you do it, road tripping around Tasmania is relaxed, well sign posted and like the good old days, there’s also plenty of free parking.

What better way to see Tassie than behind your own wheel, stopping where you like and pulling over for those perfect holiday photos.

We acknowledge the Tasmanian Aboriginal people and their enduring custodianship of lutruwita / Tasmania. We honour 40,000 years of uninterrupted care, protection and belonging to these islands, before the invasion and colonisation of European settlement.

As a destination that welcomes visitors to these lands, we acknowledge our responsibility to represent to our visitors, Tasmania’s deep and complex history, fully, respectfully and truthfully.

We acknowledge the Aboriginal people who continue to care for this country today. We pay our respects to their elders, past and present. We honour their stories, songs, art, and culture, and their aspirations for the future of their people and these lands. We respectfully ask that tourism be a part of that future.
